Description |
| Sikkim - 'the best-kept secret in
the Himalayas' - is nestled between Nepal, China (Tibet),
Bhutan & West Bengal (India). Sikkim's rugged
& dramatic terrain has elevation variations ranging
from 285 mts. to 8540 mts. It is the ultimate Paradise
for Botanist & plant lovers with over 4000 species
of flowering plants, including an incredible 600 species
of Orchid. |
Itinerary |
Day 01: Fly Kathmandu to Biratnagar.
Drive to Siliguri, (150 kms/4 hrs). Upon arrival meet,
assist and transfer by road to Siliguri. Overnight hotel.
Day 02: Siliguri-Yuksom: (1,770 m.).
AM: Early morning drive to Yuksom, the starting point
of the trek. Overnight trekkers hut/tents.
Day 03: Yuksom-Tshoka: (2,745 m.).
The trek begins after breakfast through dense semi tropical
forests occasionally crossing beautiful mountain streams.
After lunch the last two hours to Tshoka is a steep
climb.
Overnight trekkers hut/tents.
Day 04: Tshoka-Dzongri: (4,200 m.).
A steep climb through fascinating rhododendron forests.
The magnificent view of Mt. Khangchendzonga and Mt.
Pandim can be witnessed all through the route.
Overnight at trekkers hut/tents.
Day 05: Dzongri-Thangsing: (3,930 m.).
A relatively easy trail with a clear view of Mt. Khangchendzonga.
After lunch a slight climb after crossing a mountain
stream. Overnight tents.
Day 06: Thangsing-Samiti Pokhari: (4,500 m.).
The trail is fairly even up to a village and onwards
you walk along the moraines for about half an hour.
Overnight tents.
Day 07: Samiti Pokhari-Goechala-Samiti Pokhari (5,002m.).
Early morning climb along a gully, as the trail is uneven
you have to walk on moraine and boulders. A magnificent
view of the east face of Khangendzonga can be witnessed.
Descend to Samiti Pokhari. Overnight tents.
Day 08: Samiti Pokhari-Thangsing:
Back track to the Thangsing river. Overnight tents.
Day 09: Thansing-Bakhim: (2,684 m.). Descend to Phedang
instead of going to Dzongri. A very steep descend to
Bakhim. Overnight tents.
Day 10: Bakhim-Yuksom: (12 kms). The last day of the
trek, retrace the trail to Yuksom at your own leisure.
If you arrive early you can visit Dubdi monastery or
take a stroll around the tranquil lake. Overnight trekkers
hut/tents.
Day 11: Yuksom-Pemayangste/Gangtok as per your choice. |
