Hilsa
we
meet
our
Tibet
vehicles
&
drive
to
Purang
&
onto
Lake
Manasorovar.
O/N
camp
at
Chiu
Gompa.
Day
9:
Chiu
Gompa
is
at
a
fabulous
location
atop
a
hill
overlooking
the
Lake
Manasorovar.
Lake
Manasorovar
(4588
m)
is
located
in
West
Tibet
between
Mt.
Kailash
(6714
m)
&
the
Gurla
Mandhata
range
(7694
m).
It
covers
a
distance
of
90
kms
&
takes
4-5
days
for
a
full
circuit
of
the
lake.
The
best
time
to
circle
Manasorovar
is
in
late
autumn
&
early
spring
when
the
streams
and
rivers
flowing
into
the
lake
are
low.
Day
10:
CHIU
MONASTERY
TO
LANGPONA
The
trail
follows
the
Ganga
Chu
&
remains
on
the
headlands
for
5
kms
&
is
quite
level.
Mt.
Kailash
is
a
constant
companion
during
this
stretch.
The
cliff
along
the
trail
are
dotted
with
caves
dug
out
by
Hindus
&
Buddhist
hermits
over
the
centuries.
The
trail
then
descends
to
Cherkip
Valley
where
you
will
see
Cherkip
Monastery,
one
of
the
smallest
of
the
8
lakeside
monasteries.
We
continue
further
to
the
main
pilgrim
path
at
Langpona
Monastery.
The
site
here
is
surrounded
by
pastures
where
nomads
from
Horchu
&
Purang
graze
their
animals
in
winter.

11:
LANGPONA-SERALUNG
The
trail
fromn
Langpona
to
the
east
side
of
Manasorovar
is
clear,
flat
&
easy.
A
trail
along
the
shore
fords
the
Samo
Tsangpo
shortly
after
rounding
the
lake's
northeastern
corner.
And
7
kms
south
of
the
Samo
Tsangpo
is
Seralung
Monastery,
well
hidden
at
the
mouth
of
a
side
valley.
Day
12:
SERALUNG-TRUGO
Following
the
trail
south
of
Seralung,
the
hills
bordering
the
lake
recede
&
a
plain
develops
southeast
of
the
lake.
We
ford
a
stream
&
cross
a
bridge
festooned
with
prayer
flags
over
the
Tag
Tsangpo.
We
go
past
the
ruins
of
Ningo
Monastery
which
has
been
visited
by
Atisha.
4
kms
further
from
this
monastery
is
Trugo,
an
active
monastery.
Seralung
to
Trugo
takes
about
7
hours.
Most
Tibetan
pilgrims
walk
from
Horchu
to
Trugo
in
one
long
day.

RUGO-GOSUL
MONASTERY
Much
of
the
southern
shore
is
swampy
&
the
trail
skirts
the
wettest
areas.
Around
Manasorovar's
southwest
corner
is
Shushup
Tso.
And
7
kms
from
here
is
Gosul
Monastery
situated
along
the
shore.
Nearby
are
several
caves
within
tall
cliffs.
South
of
the
monastery,
a
trail
leads
to
the
highest
point
between
Rakshas
Tal
&
Manasorovar.
From
this
point
you
can
have
an
outstanding
view
of
the
entire
region.
Day
14:
GOSUL-CHIU
GOMPA
The
trail
follows
the
edge
of
the
lake.
It
is
a
6
km
walk
from
Gosul
to
Tseti
lake
&
another
2
hrs
walk
from
there
to
Chiu
Monastery.
Day
15:
DARCHEN
(4560
M),
30
KM
About
30
kms
north
of
Lake
Manasorovar
is
Darchen,
the
main
gateway
&
the
village.
Here
we
organize
yaks
or
ponies
for
the
Kailash
circuit
trek.
Day
16:
KAILASH
CIRCUIT
TREK
-
DIRAPHUK
:

hrs)
This
Kailash
circuit
covers
53
kms
&
can
be
done
in
3
days.
We
head
west
in
clockwise
direction
&
after
a
few
kilometers
the
trail
climbs
up
to
a
cairn
at
4730
m
from
where
the
southern
face
of
Mt.
Kailash
comes
to
view.
En
route
visit
Tarboche
where
annual
flagpole
raising
ceremony
takes
place
during
Saga
Dawa.

17:
DIRAPHUK
-
ZUTRULPHUK

Today
we
cross
Drolma
la
pass
(5630
M)
&
Gauri
Kund
Lake
(5608
m)
where
Hindus
worship
&
immerse
themselves
in
the
icy
waters
of
the
lake.

DARCHEN
-
LAKE
MANASOROVAR
(2-3
hrs)
The
final
end
of
the
parikrama
is
an
easy
2-3
hrs
walk
down
to
where
the
river
emerges
on
to
the
Barga
plain.
We
complete
the
3
day
circuit
trek
of
Mt.
Kailash
&
drive
to
Lake
Manasorovar.
