Jomsom
is situated in the upper
Kali Gandaki Valley. It
is the airport to the Hindu
pilgrimage Muktinath. The
region from Tatopani to
Jomsom is predominantly
inhabitated by Magars and
sparsly by Brahmins and
Thakalis. Up from Tatopani
is the world's deepest Kali
Gandaki gorge and en-route
you can feast on the splendorous
views of Annapurna I, Nilgiri
and Nilgiri South. Marpha
is famous for its apple
cider and apricot brandy
.

Itinerary |
Day
01 : Tatopani (1189 m) - The
trail passes through the village
Chitre, Phalate nd Sikha in
3 h. On the way one gets an
unforgettable view of Annapurna
South and Dhaulagiri. Tatopani
is named for its hot water
springs. The trek time is
5 h.
Day 02 : Kalopani (2530 m)
- Travel north along the bank
of Kali Gandaki river. The
trail goes through Dana and
reaches Rukse Chhahara, a
waterfall. Ascend to Ghasa
and the trek passes Lete to
reach Kalopani.
Day 03 : Jomsom (2701 m) -
The trail dvances with an
easy walk, cross a suspension
bridge over Kali Gandaki and
the trail turns to an easterly
direction. Pass the Thakali
village of Larjung, Khobang
and Tukuche. The Kali Gandaki
valley in this area is called
Thak Khola, taking the anem
from the Thakalis, an ethnic
group. Proceed to the village
of Marpha, which is distinguished
by whitewashed houses. After
1.5 h reach Jomsom. Jomsom
is the headuarter of Mustang
district. Trek time is 6.5
h.
Day 04 : Fly out to Kathmandu
in the morning. |
