Itinerary |
| 1 week Itinerary:
Day 1:
Transfer from the airport to Aznag‘s Countryhouse,
a typical berber guesthouse near the taek off at Agergour,
the easiest place and main flying site near Marrakech,
1h from the city. We face the colours of Morocco and
the friendship and tradition of the local people. Flying
here is mostly easy with stronger winds around midday
and afternoon and season from the end of september until
the beginning of may. Briefing at the take off. In a
usual group of 4-5 we are in a Landrover with driver.
The driver does pickups and retrievals from the landing
areas. The fresh mountain air of the high plateau at
Agergour makes sleeping very comfortable. The sight
is very beautiful with the snowy heights of the atlas
central range and ist 12,000 feet peaks behind.
Day 2:
We fly at Agergour in the morning, then land and continue
from the landing area to the flying site of Tassourt,an
amazing ridge of 8kms (1 h drive) east of Marrkech near
the Ourika valley. We have a 35 minutes walk to the
gate of paradise. The take off is more difficult than
Aguergour (a steep, short slope in a wind compression).
So we have to prepare on the leeward side and move ready
to launch to the take off slope. You will be helped
to launch and get briefed on details. The reward for
all your action is an amazing up and down along the
ridge and, in good conditions, catch up with cloudbase
and tunrarounds into the flatlands. After the flying
we drive into Marrakech for a sightseeing of the old
center around the Place „Jama al Fna“ –
„Meeting of the deaths“ enjoy the lively
Souks and have a buffet dinner at Hotel Faucould (price
per person around 130 DH; 1 US $ = 7.8 moroccan Dirham).
We spend the night at Eva’s House Dar Yamna in
Marrakech. Eva is a nice, old swiss lady.
Day 3:
After breakfast we get on the road. This is our longest
driving day and we cross the Atlas towards Agadir but
cut left before reaching this harbour town. Our destination
is the Ammel valley in the heart of the Anti-Atlas,
which I would call the „Dolomites“ of Morocco,
a breathtaking mountain area with picturesque berber
villages settled amidst rock crags and canyons. We climb
higher after aving crossed the Souss plains and enter
the canyons of the Anti-Atlas with a stop at Talborjit,
a small valleywind flying site, or, in case we are fast
and the conditions allow it, we head directly to Idikel, the
main flying place. During the drive we visit the restored
Agadir (fortified village) of Tizourgane with a tea
break. Ending the day with a sunset flight at Idikel
gives us another highlight. Idikel is an open saddle
above a wide valley so you can really turn around once
getting airborne but reverse launch is strongly recommended.
After pickup from landing we have another 20 minutes
to our guesthouse in the berber village of Oumesnate,
an amzing open air museum at the bottom of huge rock
walls. Dinner at the guesthouse. Prepare 80 Dirham for
a typical moroccan Tagine dinner. (a tagine is mixed
vegetables with lamb, chicken or beef, cooked in spices
in a ceramic pot on charcoal and you will love it!).

| Day 4:
Morning excursion to Tafraout and the Painted Rocks,
a plateau of eroded monoliths ( a smaller monument
valley, indeed) where we have a stroll for fotos and
some contemplation. Then on, we visit the „Maison
Touareg“ in Tafraout, the main town of the area.
These people are famous for their friendly hospitality
and trade with authentic berber, nomad and touareg
hanbals, carpets from families of the mountains or
the desert. You’ll have a detailed introduction
into the art and meaning of the berber hanbal or kelim.
And may, of course, if you like, negotiate on that
occasion a nice piece of Morocco for at home.
In the afternoon after a midday braek we prepare for
our flying as the flying sites have mostly west directions.
If not yet tried out we will visit Idikel (following
wind conditions), or, with stronger winds, go to Doussdirm,
a lower flying place for evening soarings. We spend
the night again at Oumesnate Guesthouse – this
time maybe having Couscous for dinner!
Day 5:
We leave early as this is a day to the coast with
3-4hrs driving. We follow along a very curved and
tiny road winding across the rugged Kest mountains.
If good conditions prevail, we take a visit to the
newly arranged flying site of Aguerd Mimoun, where
long and high flights are possible and continue to
the village of Anezi and further on to Tiznit (break)
where we reach the plains. From there it is a fast
ride on a steady road and, last but least downsouth
along the coast. Legzira, our stay, cannot be seen
from the road. The coastline seems uninhabited and
rough but that appearance is deceiving us. This time
we reach our sleeping place by air, we fly to it!
Straight drive up to the take off and here we go,
if the breeze is still on: beautiful view and late
afternoon soaring 1200 feet above the coastline with
ist cliffs and rockarches, broken by sandbeaches!!!!
Landing at Legzira beach in front of our Guesthouse
„Chez Abdul“!
The evening awaits us with tasty, grilled fish, fresh
salad and chips!
Day 6:
This is holiday! You enjoy soaring, thermalling and
swimming (following season, of course – the
mighty Atlantic has a very cold current!). We will
visit the town of Sidi ifni, once a spanish place
named „Santa Cruz“ and Africa’s
only art Deco town so far. It’s a sleepy place
in ist somehow rundown melancholy but nevertheless
something special, away from the trodden roads! We
spend the night again at Abduls guesthouse.
Day 7:
Time to prepare for the road north! After a midday
flight in smooth thermals we leave towards Agadir
(3hrs) where we spend the night in Hotel Aferni, a
comfortable small 2star place with pool in a calm
area. Farewell dinner in town.
Day 8:
Transfer to Agadir airport or Marrakech airport following
your departure schedules! If you have an early departure
from Marrakech you will stay the last night at Eva’s
Guesthouse, Marrakech, instead of Hotel Aferni, Agadir.
We wish you a safe return and, hopefully, hear again
from you in a nother flying holiday! Shukran!
