The 6,000 terracottas, placed in row after row of warriors with their horses, are one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of the 20th century. Next you visit the Wildgangspagoda.

Late in the morning fly to Xining (MU2152 1120/1240). In the afternoon visit the monastery of Kumbum (Ta'er Si). In the evening transfer to the railway station. Your train trip to Lhasa is about to start (N917 2007/2230, soft sleeper, 4-bed compartments).
